Mike Tyson to Make His Broadway Debut in a Play Spike Lee Will Direct

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike “Iron Mike” Tyson is scheduled to appear next month in a Broadway play directed by Spike Lee, according to Tyson's website, miketyson.com

The one-man show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth,” will be Tyson's acting debut on Broadway  and Lee's debut as a director of a Broadway play. The play, however, debuted in April at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.  Tyson lives in Las Vegas.

“Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth” is scheduled to open July 31 for six performances, ending Aug. 5 at the Longacre Theatre in New York City.

Tyson's website describes the play as a raw, no-holds barred story about his life.

“Tyson will unveil never-before-told stories, peeling back layers of tragedy and public turmoil while unfolding his tale of triumph and survival,” according to the website.  “In an up-close-and-personal setting featuring images, music and video, Tyson will share the stories of his life and experiences as a professional athlete and controversies in and out of the ring. Theatrical, intimate, and unprecedented, this show will reveal the man behind the myth.”

Tyson won the World Boxing Council Championship in 1986, defeating Trevor Berbick.  He also won World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation titles. His career record was 50 wins in 58 fights.  He won 44 fights by knockout.

Tyson has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
