Chicago Pastor Finishes Cross-Country Walk

Chicago Pastor Corey Brooks who went from the rooftop to the road has completed his 2,700-mile  walk across the country to bring attention to violence in urban communities and to raise funds to purchase an abandoned building.

Brooks, pastor of New Beginnings Church, located in Chicago’s Englewood/Woodlawn neighborhood, announced in an e-mail dated September 28th that he completed the walk, which began June 5, 2012, in New York’s Times Square and ended in Los Angeles at the Staples Center.

In the email, Brooks announced that he is returning to Chicago from Los Angeles on October 14, but he didn’t say how.

Before his cross-country journey, Pastor Brooks lived for 94 days on the roof of an abandoned two-story motel across the street from his church.

Brooks’ goal was to raise $15 million to buy and tear down the building in order to build a community and economic-development center.

In his email message, he asked supporters to raise $1,000 each to meet the $15 million goal.
