Jay-Z Releases First Live Recording in a Decade

Jay Z released on Tuesday his first live recording in more than a decade.  The extended-play recording, Live in Brooklyn, documents his eight-night run at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, September 28 to October 6. The final night’s performance was streamed live over the Internet.

This latest recording, now available only in a digital format exclusively on iTunes, is described as an “optic” performance, one that features audio from the eight concerts, as well as eight separate videos, one for each night’s performance.

While there were no guest performers during the series, the singer Beyonce, Jay-Z’s wife, appeared on the final night.  She sang “Diva” and “Forever Young,” plus a duet with Jay-Z of “Crazy in Love,“ a song she wrote and recorded with him in 2002. The song has since sold more than nine million copies.

The Barclays Center, a $1 billion indoor entertainment and sports arena, was built as a new home for the Brooklyn Nets basketball team. Jay-Z, who helped design the logo for the Nets, is a minority owner of the team. The center opened September 21.

Jay-Z’s only live performance recording before Live in Brooklyn was Jay-Z Unplugged, issued by Roc-a-Fella in 2001. Since then, Jay-Z has made five studio albums and performed on 14 top-10 hit single recordings.
