Rev. Jesse Jackson Arrested for Protesting the Closing of Bain Capital-Owned Plant

Freeport, Ill., police on Wednesday arrested Rev. Jesse Jackson and 13 others who were protesting the closing of the Bain Capital-owned Sensata Technologies plant so it can transfer the factory’s jobs to China.

Police arrested Jackson, union leaders, and former Sensata employees for trespassing on company property. Sensata develops, manufactures and sells sensors and controls for automobile companies.

“There is a war going on today for the soul of our nation,” Jackson said. “We’re at the heart of that war. We have a military surplus. The Chinese have a trade surplus. We have guns, and they have jobs. That is not a good tradeoff.”

A Sensata employee estimated that only 60 people out of the 170 employees remain working at the plant, which is scheduled to close by the end of the year.

A large crowd gathered at the factory, chanting, “No justice, no peace," before police began arresting them.

Factory employees have called on former Gov. Mitt Romney to use his influence at Bain to prevent the factory from closing.
